The RSS Blog

News and commentary from the RSS and OPML community.

Jonathan Avidan, has introduced himself to the world as the author of the RSS 3 specification. So versed in the world of RSS, that he didn't already know that there already is an RSS 3.0. He claims, "The funniest thing, though, is that RSS 3 apparently exists, here. I canvassed the web quite thoroughly, or so I thought, before starting this." I guess he's never heard of Google.

Update: I reviewed the spec and I have one thing to say. ROTFL.

Some excerpts...

  • This attribute replaces the <source> element of the 2.0 format which was supposed to be placed beneath the <channel> element. Randy: This guy can't read.
  • The <description> element is optional in 0.91 but required in 2.0. Randy: Did he read the 2.0 spec?
  • The "RSS" acronym has been given several interpretations, the most dominant being "Rich Site Summary". Randy: "Rich Site Summary" 156k "Really Simple Syndication" 5.6m. Dominant, must mean less used.
